David S. Klimstra, MD

Dr. Klimstra is the Chair of the Department of Pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

After earning his medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Klimstra began in a fellowship at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in 1991. He was invited to join the faculty after completing the program. He is the current Chair of the Department of Pathology at MSKCC.

Dr. Klimstra is a pathologist with more than 20 years of experience in making diagnoses based on examining tissue samples removed by biopsy or during surgery. His expertise is diagnosing tumors that arise in the stomach, colon, and hepatobiliary region (liver, pancreas, and bile ducts).

Over the course of his career, he has published more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, and have been honored to serve on editorial boards for several publications, including Annals of Diagnostic Pathology, Virchows Archiv, Modern Pathology, and the American Journal of Surgical Pathology.

Dr. Klimstra serves on two National Cancer Institute committees: the Neuroendocrine Tumor Task Force (since 2011) and the Pancreas Cancer Tissue Acquisition Working Group (since 2010). He has also been a member of the International Cancer Genome Consortium since 2010. Dr. Klimstra serves on the NANETS Board of Directors and the Nominating Committee.
